Bay Area Behavioral Group’s Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation (CDE) program offers a wide range of diagnostic services to children ages 0-18. The first step of the CDE process is to meet the diagnostic team for an initial screening interview to determine if further testing and evaluation is necessary. If the screening interview determines further evaluation is warranted, the second step of the CDE process is a comprehensive evaluation and assessment of symptom manifestation. If a screening interview indicates suspected neurodevelopmental disorder(s), further evaluation and testing will be recommended. This thorough diagnostic evaluation would include observation of the child’s behavior in at least 2 settings, review of existing reports, and interview of current caregivers. This process may also include a Speech and Language evaluation with BABG’s diagnostic staff specializing in speech and language development. A typical diagnostic evaluation involves a multi-disciplinary team of Psychologists, a Speech and Language Pathologist, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst as well as other supporting Clinicians to provide insight into the child’s symptom manifestation within the context of the full diagnostic criteria for suspected neurodevelopment disorders.
The CDE often begin with an initial screening interview and BABG's CDE team to determine if further evaluation is warranted. If further evaluation is recommended, BABG may use any of the following tests to assist to identify potential diagnoses within the scope of our diagnostic practice:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is neurodevelopmental disorder that are characterized by the core symptoms of impairment in social interaction and communication as well as restricted, repetitive behaviors (APA, 2013). Autism diagnosis covers a wide spectrum of symptom presentation and range of skills or impairments. The diversity of symptom manifestation in ASD can make it difficult to accurately diagnose. Sometimes autistic children are mistakenly diagnosed with a different disorder, such as ADHD, or are told that nothing is wrong. Other times children are diagnosed with autism when another disorder would better capture symptom experience, or even when symptoms would not meet criteria for any existing diagnosis.
